If all else is lost, you still have time

“Killing time is not murder, it is suicide”
Delmaine Peterson

A very good friend of mine posted the above quote on FACEBOOK recently, and it left such a profound impact in my life. It left me pondering about minute details of our lives which we often don’t consider.

I  finally realised why  many people can't break out of poverty completely, why we don’t reach academic excellence as students and the real reason we don’t get out of the ordinary and mediocrity.

You see, Time is our most important asset. How we use our time today determines how we will live tomorrow. Yielding to procrastination today will give way to failure of an examination tomorrow, delay in that promotion you expected because you did not use your time effectively to develop key competencies in your job.

The lack of financial independence because you did not use the time to learn how to make money on the stock exchange.

We often think that poverty is the absence of food, but I think it is the inability to transform available resources to personal development.

Time is one of those resources we fail dismally to transform into our ideal personal self’s. As long as you have time you can achieve anything. You really don’t need money to get rich, at least not in this information age. You need time.

You don’t need money to get a degree, at least not when there are so many bursaries and loans in South Africa. You need time. You don’t need to be Einstein to make right investments, at least not when we live in the Internet age. You guessed it, you need time.

But how we use our time, separates winners from losers, the extra-ordinary from the ordinary. We are all exposed to 365 days in a year, 52 weeks in a year and 24 hours in a day. But how we use that time, will determine if we end up rich and fulfilled or poor and blaming.

It does not matter where you find yourself right now, whether you think you reached your plateau, or you think you are down and out, as long as you still have time, you can go higher and be better.

I would really encourage you to start using your time effectively. Use your free time to visit the library,  and read up on current affairs, financial markets and investments plans.

Use the Internet to enhance your knowledge pool, perspective and read constructive articles on how to become a better person. The only investment with guaranteed ROI (Return-on-Investment) you can make is in yourself. Equip yourself with knowledge and you will never be broke another second in your life.

And remember, if all is lost, you still have time.
